The Serge Hill Project for Gardening, Creativity and Health is thrilled and proud to announce the first ever Summer Online Auction in aid of its work with schools, community groups and mental health charities.
Three internationally acclaimed artists - Edmund de Waal, Romilly Saumarez Smith and Adam Lowe of Factum Foundation - have generously chosen to donate exquisite artworks to the auction. In addition, Tom and Sue Stuart-Smith are hosting an exclusive Group Tour for 8 of The Barn Garden and The Plant Library. Bidding is open for bids and donations until 2359H on Wednesday, 16th July 2025.
Artist, potter and author, Edmund de Waal OBE has exhibited in galleries and institutions throughout the world. Made in 2025, ‘a green thought’ (pictured) is a porcelain vessel with gilded porcelain shards on a gilded aluminium L-shelf and measures 30 x 21 x 19.2cm.
Jeweller and artist, Romilly Saumarez Smith OBE makes intricate pieces using antique finds and lost artefacts giving them a new found life. ‘Seafan with Jewelled Handle’ has been made from a 19th century bone handle, 18 carat gold, diamonds, pearls, sea urchin spine ends, oxidised silver snake chain and measures 66 x 50 x 2.5cm.
Artist and Founder of Factum Foundation, Adam Lowe OBE has dedicated his life to merging new technologies and craft skills. His contribution is a three-dimensional recreation of a 16th-century salt cellar, originally designed by Giulio Romano for the Gonzaga court. Factum’s 3D sculptors transformed the original design into a detailed digital model. The final piece was cast in pewter, with a striking blue glass bowl at its centre.
The co-founders of The Serge Hill Project - landscape architect Tom and psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr Sue Stuart-Smith - are offering an exclusive Group Garden Tour for up to 8 people around the Barn Garden and The Plant Library at Serge Hill in Hertfordshire. Guests will also be invited to join them for a delicious light lunch or early evening champagne and canapés.
The Serge Hill Project for Gardening, Creativity and Health is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based on the understanding that working with nature can radically transform people’s health and wellbeing. It draws on Sue’s work as a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and author of the best selling book, The Well Gardened Mind, which investigates the power of gardening to transform lives, as well as Tom’s horticultural expertise as an internationally renowned Landscape Architect.
In the 12 months since the project opened over 500 children have visited The Serge Hill Project at Bedmond, Hertfordshire, and they have launched their first Gardening for Health group for people recovering from cancer treatment. All profits raised from the auction will go directly to expanding and developing these programmes to reach more people, especially those who would otherwise not have access to nature.
The auction is now live here for bids and donations until 2359H on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
