‘Get creative with the camera in your pocket’- Ann Kelly

Join us for a midsummer’s evening camera phone photograpy workshop with classically trained photographer Ann Kelly, in Tom Stuart-Smith’s beautiful Plant Library of over 2000 varieties of plants and bulbs.

Ann Kelly is a fully trained photographer and a passionate teacher with a love of using phone photography for image-making and capturing gardens and the natural world. As the summer light shines and then fades, you will learn:

  • how to set up the camera on your phone for best shooting
  • Ann's favourite accessories for using a phone camera
  • how to control the exposure and focus on your camera phone
  • discover the camera functions for excellent image-making
  • create dynamic photographic compositions in the garden
  • to get close-up with your camera phone, go macro!
  • the mental health benefits of being creative
  • Ann's favourite App for instant post-production and sharing

Whether you're an android or iPhone user, this workshop is for anyone who enjoys taking pictures on their phone. The best camera you have, is the one that’s always with you.

About Ann Kelly

Ann Kelly has over 30 years of experience in the photography and digital imaging business.

After studying at college she served her apprenticeship by assisting established London advertising and editorial photographers, (AOP), and then worked in the film industry assisting movie still photographers on set.
She then moved into photographic printing, working in a darkroom as a black and white printer, printing for exhibitions and London theatre displays.

For 15 years she had a Lifestyle and Portrait photography business, photographing children and families in Islington, North London.
She was the staff photographer at London Metropolitan University for 7 years, photographing events, PR, and images for brochures and prospectus. She is a qualified teacher (post-grad. in Ed.) designing and delivering photography courses for over 20 years.

For the last ten years she has focused on her company, Learn Digital Photo, offering Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced courses in digital photography.
She teaches : Adobe Lightroom LrC and Photoshop for photography and cameraphone photography, "to get creative with the camera in their pocket".

Parking is limited so please car-share or use public transport wherever possible. Details of how to find us are here.

If you arrive by car, as you turn into Featherbed Lane, the gravel lane off Sergehill Lane, please drive all the way to the end of the lane, and park in the field as signposted. Please do not park in residents only bays which are along Featherbed Lane.

Accessibility

Accessible parking for those who require it is available directly outside The Apple House. There is step-free access to the building and all areas. However, there are many potential trip hazards and uneven surfaces that may be encountered whilst visiting the gardens, along with gravel paths that aren’t suitable for walking frames with wheels.
