Step into the Apple House for full immersion in the world of flowers, for this special public viewing of our Flower Light exhibition.
Spanning dream and real worlds, Flower Light presents a visual response to the Plant Library, exploring gardens as spaces where inspiration and experience intertwine. Flower Light is the inaugural art exhibition in the Apple House, an installation of the work by our Artist in Residence, Anne McKenzie.
Rooted in the ethos of the Serge Hill Project, the exhibition celebrates the powerful connections between people, plants, and creativity. Over the course of a year, Anne McKenzie has brushed work on site, capturing the ever-changing seasons and flora within the Plant Library, a living catalogue of over 2000 varieties of plants. On display alongside Anne’s work you’ll see banners created during community workshops—expressions of shared making, collective care, and creative exchange.
Anne's banners will be available to purchase, with proceeds supporting the ongoing work of the Serge Hill Project.
Other Flower Light events include T’ai Chi for Beginners on Tuesday 14 April and Exhibition Public Viewings on Friday 10 April 2026.
Anne McKenzie
Anne McKenzie
A London-based painter, Anne McKenzie creates botanical banners using pigments bound with honey and gum arabic on handmade Japanese paper. Her work is a calligraphic exploration of natural forms, including plants, trees and flowers.
Of the her work, Anne says:
“My intention is to convey the beauty, delight, mystery and wonder of the world’s precious plants, rendering their image in a sacred, prayerful format that references Shodo. With 40% of the world’s plants at risk of extinction, it is timely to paint these visual prayers. My banners can be hung as stand-alone pieces or arranged in installations–roll-down gardens of paper that play with light and sway gently in response to the breezes created when moving through them.”
Anne McKenzie earned her Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy at Goldsmith’s, University of London and her Bachelor of Fine Art at Rhodes University. Her years of living in the global culture of London have allowed her to study a variety of meditative traditions, which inform her practice. Anne has exhibited in London and is a member of Design Nation and Find a Maker. Anne is also featured in the Homo Faber guide.

Accessibility and Parking
Accessible parking for those who require it is available at the entry to The Apple House. There is step-free access to the building and all areas. However, there are many potential trip hazards and uneven surfaces that may be encountered whilst visiting the gardens, along with gravel paths that aren’t suitable for walking frames with wheels.
